Dramatic takedown on farm

RCMP got their man after calling in the dogs and air support to bust a Fraser Valley drug and stolen vehicle operation.

Police used Air One and the Abbotsford Emergency Response Team to execute a search warrant at a farm on the 27600 block of Downes Road on Jan. 4.

Robert Allen Vrban, 43, of Maple Ridge attempted to flee in a stolen vehicle as police staged outside the property. Police say he tried to take off in a stolen Dodge Challenger. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Surrey earlier that day.

When faced with imminent arrest, Vrban attempted to evade police again, but was captured by two police dog teams.

It took four hours to search the entire farm. The search turned up substances believed to be cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine. In total, there were six stolen vehicles, one boat trailer, tools and a truck canopy recovered from the property.

Vrban faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000, operating a motor vehicle while disqualified, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday.
