Winter storm approaching

A significant winter storm is headed for the Fraser Valley.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for snowfall, snow and freezing rain for Fraser Valley central including Chilliwack, Fraser Valley east including Hope and Fraser Valley west including Abbotsford.

A strong low will move towards Vancouver Island and snowfall is expected to intensify on Wednesday.

“Warmer air aloft will spread across the region while brisk northeast winds will maintain the cooler air near the surface,” states Environment Canada.

Ten to 20 centimetres of snow is possible before an extended period of freezing rain.

“A significant layer of ice is possible through Friday especially over Central and Eastern sections,” states Environment Canada.

The public is being advised that this has the potential to be a significant winter storm and highways could be hazardous.
