Vehicle fire backs up Coq

A vehicle caught fire along the Coquihalla Highway Monday.

A vehicle fire two kilometres north of the Coldwater exit has backed up northbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway, according to a driver who was at the scene.

Just before 1 p.m., traffic was backed up for about one kilometre and only one lane was open, said the eye witness.

"It was just the volume of traffic holding it up and they were being slowed down by highways crew before reaching the accident."

RCMP and a Merritt towing company were said to be at the scene.

Earlier Monday, West Kelowna firefighters were called out to attend a rollover on Highway 97C, the Okanagan Connector, east of Elkhart Junction.

DriveBC is warning of slush and slippery sections along the connector.
