The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating after a man was shot to death by police.
About 6 a.m. Thursday, RCMP were asked to assist paramedics who were tending to a man who had stabbed himself inside a vehicle on the Inland Island Highway in Qualicum Beach.
Callers to 911 then advised police the man was running down the highway and that someone was trying to restrain him.
A struggle ensued between police and the man, with shots fired by officers. Paramedics provided medical assistance, but the 35-year-old succumbed to his injuries.
Two officers sustained minor injuries during the struggle and were taken to hospital for medical attention.
