A Richmond bike thief decided to go after the wrong ride.
RCMP deployed a "bait bike" in downtown Richmond last week, and it was stolen in just 10 minutes.
Officers found the thief in the area of No. 3 Road and arrested him.
“Zero to arrest in 10 minutes flat. Our message to thieves – bait bikes are everywhere in Richmond. If you steal one, we will arrest you,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang.
Darren Belcourt, 33, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000.
“Any tool is only as good as its effectiveness and results. In this case, with respect to bike thieves, our bait bike program is off to a fantastic start,” said Hwang.
