More snow for highways

It might be time to switch to winter tires if you frequent the mountain passes of the Southern Interior.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of snow Tuesday and Wednesday night on the Coquihalla, Okanagan Connector and Kootenay and Rogers passes.

“A cold upper low has settled over the province. A dusting of snow has already been received over the last few days with the arrival of the cold air. Now, as more significant moisture arrives from the north and mixes in with this cold air, the probability of getting snow is rising as is the probability of it accumulating.”

The Kootenay Pass is expected to get the worst of it, where five centimetres or more is possible.

“The unstable nature of the airmass makes the timing and location of snow amounts uncertain,” the statement concludes.
