911: parrot rescue

Firefighters used a ladder truck and sprayed water in an unsuccessful attempt to coax a pet parrot out of a tree in Victoria, Sunday.

The owner first called the fire department on Saturday, after the bird got free.

Firefighters don't usually respond to pets up trees as they usually come down when they get hungry. But they gave it a shot Sunday as the owner became increasingly upset.

“We understand it’s a pet, it’s a part of the family,” Capt. Gord Taylor told CTV.

Firefighters climbed as high as they could and sprayed the bird with water.

“This little fellow took it like a shower and shook it off,” Taylor said. “We shook the branch with a pole … that did work, but he went out did a loop and went into another tree.”

There's no word on whether the bird has returned home.
