Ready for PNE fun

The Fair at the PNE will be celebrating Canada's 150th birthday when events begin Saturday in Vancouver.

"We have a number of attractions, whether it be iconic Canadia ... to actual displays and exhibits dedicated to the 150th celebration," says spokesperson Laura Ballance. "Many of our festival park area acts will also be themed for Canada 150."

Ballance also referenced the Canada Showcase, which will be ongoing at the fair, saying "it’s a reflection of a cultural mosaic.

"And I think one of the highlights of this year’s (event) will be Kaleidoscope on Parade, which is a celebration of Canada 150, and it’s a very whimsical, pro-Canada themed parade," Ballance said, adding that the parade will take place every day.

Other key attractions include the summer night concert series, RCMP musical ride, and a Hockey Hall of Fame exhibit, which will be the "largest exhibit that they’ve ever had outside of the actual Hall of Fame."

The fair will run from Aug. 19 until Sept. 4, and will be closed for Aug 21. and Aug. 28.

Organizers are anticipating 700,000 visitors to the two-week event. Last year's attendance saw 712,367 visitors turn out.
