Rain, lightning on the way

Mother Nature could lend a helping hand to firefighters battling more than 150 wildfires across the B.C. Interior over the next 24 hours. Or not.

Hot, dry conditions will be replaced by unsettled weather.

Environment Canada is calling for a slight risk of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

However, meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau says that risk will increase considerably heading into Thursday.

As we get into this evening, overnight and into tomorrow, that's when we are going to see the pattern shift," said Charbonneau.

"We have an upper low that's going to be drifting across the province tomorrow. It's going to bring a widespread area of showers and thunderstorms across the southern half of B.C."

Charbonneau says the risk of a shower with possible thunderstorms in the Okanagan is about 60 per cent tomorrow.

She says we can expect a couple of millimetres of rain, with the possibility of heavier accumulations through the Shuswap, Thompson and Cariboo areas.

Temperatures are also expected to cool significantly into the low 20s Thursday and Friday before warming up again on the weekend.
