Arrested in evac zone

Police have arrested a man who was feeding a friend's left behind pet in an evacuated area in 105 Mile House.

Police were conducting patrols in the area and noticed a light on at a home in the Watson Lake Road subdivision. A bicycle was outside the house, and the door was unlocked.

Police found a 51-year-old man from 100 Mile House in the backyard, and arrested him for being unlawfully in an evacuation zone.

“Further investigation has revealed that the male had been asked to go to the residence by the home owner, to check on and feed a pet that had been left behind,” RCMP Cpl. Janelle Shoihet said in a press release.

It is unknown if charges have been laid against the man.

“We remind residents that we are here to help and are working with our partners to ensure your community remains safe in your absence,” said Shoihet. “If you require assistance with pets or livestock you have left behind, there are proper procedures to follow to gain temporary access or assistance."
