A man arrested in Burnaby after a double stabbing in an area used by the homeless has now been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault.
RCMP were called out just after 8 p.m. Monday to a ravine by Rumble Street where an injured man was found and transported to hospital.
A search of the area located a second man who had died from injuries received during an altercation, police said.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team then took control of the investigation.
A suspect located at the scene was taken into custody.
All involved appear to have been homeless.
Samuel James Calladine, 53, has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault. He remains in police custody.
The dead man has been identified as 48-year-old Rickey Gordon Melanson.
Police said Calladine and Melanson had known each other for years and had set up their tents in the ravine.
