Ponderosa cancelled

Organizers of the Ponderosa Festival have decided to pull the plug after an aggressive wildfire put the festival on hold yesterday.

“It is very sad day for all of us here at Ponderosa,” wrote organizers Kia and Kris.

“Due to the circumstances surrounding the fire that started last Thursday near Rock Creek, Ponderosa Festival will not be happening this year as scheduled.”

The duo said they listened to concerns from the regional district and other government representatives regarding public safety.

“Due to the dynamic nature of the fire we have continued to keep a close watch on its activity and how it may impact the festival,” said Kia and Kris.

“As we have always said, we are in no position to put the safety of our guests, staff, and others at risk. We also have no intention to go against the recommendations of those who have up-to-date information on the status of the fires and who are working hard to protect the safety of those in the area.”

Organizers expressed regret for the inconvenience the news may cause to those travelling to the festival.

“Words can't express how much we were looking forward to this weekend and to hosting our guests,” said Kia and Kris. “So much love has gone into this year of preparation and we are incredibly disappointed that the festival will not go through.”
