An information meeting will be held this afternoon in Midway to update residents affected by the Rock Creek wildfire on structures lost in the blaze.
The meeting will take place at 4 p.m. at the Midway Community Centre, 692 7th Ave., to inform the public about efforts so far to battle the 3,750-hectare blaze and about the number of homes and structures it has destroyed.
B.C. Wildfire Service officials, local government and other agency representatives will be on hand to discuss the fire and evacuation orders in the area.
Regional District of Kootenay Boundary information officer Alan Stanley said Sunday morning that air and ground assessments are being compiled to confirm the losses, and that more information will be released later this morning as well as at the meeting.
"We'll be updating the evacuation situation and hopefully getting some of the Kettle River Campground folks back to their cars, talking about structures lost," said Stanley.
"We're meeting with evacuated residents this morning in Kelowna and Midway," he said, "and obviously don't want to give out information on homes burned until we have spoken to the homeowners and we know for sure how many are affected."
More information is anticipated after 9 a.m.
