House fire claims life

RCMP were on the scene of a fatal house fire in Surrey early this overnight.

About 12:30 a.m., police and firefighters responded to the blaze on the 15600 block of 82nd Avenue.

Sgt. David MacDonald said a man was trapped inside the residence. Firefighters removed the 50-year-old from a basement suite, but he died a short time later.

The cause of death has not been confirmed.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature, and investigators are trying to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
