Mega marina opens

What's being hailed as the largest privately funded concrete marina in the North Okanagan officially opens Friday.

Mabel Lake Holiday Centre will be hosting the celebratory ribbon cutting event and public barbecue to open the 260-slip marina as a much-anticipated local amenity, tourist attraction and gathering place for residents and visitors.

“We are overwhelmed by the community endorsements and enthusiasm,” said Terry Laursen, one of the co-owners of the Mabel Lake resort.

“The marina will be an added feature to the beautiful recreational area of Mabel Lake for all residents and tourists to enjoy for years to come.”

The new marina, features a 265-foot aluminum pier, approximately 6,000 lineal feet of concrete walkways, 260 slips for mooring recreational boats, boat loading zones, security gates, safety lights, signage and defined swim/boat areas.

The project also included86 golf cart parking spots and an adjacent marina-related parking lot, the rebuilding and landscaping of the Mabel Lake beach breakwater.

A third phase of improvements is set to begin in the spring of 2016, with the installation of a retail outlet.
