Gross ordeal for bus driver

A Victoria bus driver was sent to hospital over the weekend after urine and vomit leaked from the upper floor of the double-decker onto her.

BC Transit and union officials are investigating the late-night incident after a large group of rowdy and intoxicated passengers boarded the No. 72 bus after midnight.

The disgusting mess leaked onto the woman's face and clothing, and got in one of her eyes. She was taken to hospital and tested for HIV and hepatitis as a precautionary measure, said Unifor local 333 president Ben Williams.

“They were completely disrespectful to the operator and what ended up happening to (her),” Williams told CTV News. “It’s obviously a very stressful situation, to have anything like that happen to you, and to be so disrespected by other human beings is totally unacceptable and a hard thing to come to terms with.”

BC Transit is testing security cameras on its fleet, but the bus involved did not have active cameras on board.

Victoria Police have not been asked to investigate, but anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact BC Transit via its website.
