Mayhem on car lot

Police say an automobile thief who had been out on parole is back in prison after a suspect crashed into eight vehicles at a car dealership and nearly struck an officer in Abbotsford.

Police say a patrol officer heard the sound of an engine in the lot at about 12:25 a.m. Tuesday and arrived to see a man in a car crashing into other vehicles.

The officer called for backup and tried to stop the man, but the driver kept ramming vehicles and then drove towards the officer, just missing him.

Police say the 31-year-old man was eventually arrested by multiple officers and was returned to a correctional facility.

He is now facing charges of dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, mischief, possession of stolen property and possession of a break-in instrument.

Police say the man's criminal history includes theft of auto, fraud, possession of stolen property and uttering death threats.
