An oily sheen was discovered Monday on the waters of Vancouver's English Bay.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says it is not recoverable.
The “mystery spill” was reported about 10:45 a.m. It’s unclear what the source of the oily substance is, where it came from, or how much was spilled.
A Port Metro Vancouver vessel investigating the site reported the sheen appeared light and didn’t give off an odour. The Coast Guard said it’s possible it’s not petroleum-based.
There’s no evidence that wildlife or beaches have been affected, and officials believe the sheen will eventually evaporate.
The DFO described the event as fairly minor.
