Crash witness sought

Surrey RCMP have spoken with the driver of a semi tractor-trailer involved in a fatal pedestrian hit and run collision last week.

Now, they are looking for the driver of a PT Cruiser who may have seen what happened.

Officers sat down with the truck driver Friday afternoon, who provided his version of the event. Once the statement was taken, he was allowed to return to his residence.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, March 12.

Investigators are in the process of obtaining a warrant to search and recover evidence from the semi. That evidence along with other evidence gathered so far will be sent for DNA analysis. Police are also having a mechanical inspection completed on the truck to ensure there was no mechanical issue that could have caused the crash, said RCMP spokesman Sgt. Dale Carr..

The reports will take a number of months to receive. Once they have been received, Surrey RCMP's Criminal Collision Investigation Team will produce a report and forward it to Crown counsel for review and possible charges.

Investigators are hoping to speak to the driver of a dark-coloured (thought to be black or dark purple) PT Cruiser that drove past the crash scene at 3:30 a.m., just 10 seconds after the crash.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 604-599-0502 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or visit www.solvecrime.ca
