Shooting spree in Surrey

Police believe four shootings in under 19 hours in Surrey are all linked – and all targeted.

About 4 a.m. Tuesday, Surrey RCMP were advised a man had been dropped off at the hospital with gunshot wounds. Police attended and identified the 20-year-old victim, who was treated and released.

Later that day, at 5:50 p.m., police found an abandoned vehicle that showed signs of being involved in a shooting. Police seized the vehicle for their investigation.

An hour later, at 6:45 p.m., Surrey RCMP attended another shooting in the area of 127th Street and 78 Avenue. A second 20-year-old man was transported to hospital, where he was treated and released.

Finally, at 11 p.m., RCMP received several reports of gunshots heard in the area of 128 Street and 76 Avenue. Police immediately attended the area, but all suspects had dispersed.

Officers were told by witnesses that four dark-coloured vehicles were seen departing the area at a high rate of speed immediately after the sound of gunshots. They were able to recover some evidence from the location.

“This type of activity is deeply concerning to the Surrey RCMP and the community,” said RCMP spokesman Sgt. Dale Carr. “We are urging anyone with information regarding these shootings to come forward. It is imperative that you do, before someone else is seriously injured or killed.”

The Surrey General Investigation Unit and Serious Crime Section believes the incidents are targeted and linked to one another.

Investigators are looking for additional evidence in the way of video, speaking to neighbours and finding other witnesses. Crime analysts are also reviewing files to gather information that will develop a profile for investigators, while the Forensic Investigation Unit is pouring over the evidence gathered to obtain samples for further analysis.

The Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team is also being brought into the fold to determine whether this has any ties to gang activity.
