Sex assault suspect caught

Update -- Feb 25

Vancouver police say Mark Spelrem was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. last night in the 300 block of Powell Street.

He was the subject of a public warning after two women were violently assaulted on February 19th.

Spelrem was located following a tip from the public.

Vancouver police are warning the public of an alleged sexual offender who is on the loose.

Two online sex workers were violently assaulted during the early morning hours of Feb. 19 at an apartment in the West End.

The two 30-year-old women were reportedly confined in the apartment, but were eventually able to escape and call police.

Police are seeking 45-year-old Mark Stacy Spelrem.

He is described as:

  • Caucaian male
  • 5’11” tall
  • slim build
  • short hair dyed blonde-orange, balding at the back

Police are asking sex workers, specifically those working online, to use extra caution when replying to potential customers.

Anyone with information on Spelrem’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
