Surrey RCMP rescued a man pinned under a pickup Wednesday after it went off 106A Avenue and rolled down an embankment.
The crash occurred at 4:15 p.m. on the 12500 block, with the vehicle coming to rest on the CN Rail right of way next to the tracks. Two other occupants of the truck fled the scene.
The trapped 53-year-old resident of Surrey was freed from under the pickup and transported to hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, said RCMP spokesman Staff Sgt. M.A. Hedderson.
The truck had two large tanks in the box that flew out in the crash and spilled diesel fuel. Both the tanks and the truck were recovered from the scene.
While police were still on scene, the driver was brought to hospital by a friend. The 43-year-old had multiple injuries, but was in stable condition and will be questioned by police.
RCMP ask that any witnesses to the collision call 604-599-0502 or CrimeStoppers.
