Transit officer charged with assault

A transit police officer and his former partner have been charged with assault after a confrontation at a SkyTrain station in Vancouver.

Transit Police spokeswoman Anne Drennan says Const. Edgardo Diaz and then-Const. Michael Hughes were involved in an alleged altercation with a man in August 2011.

Drennan says Diaz and Hughes have been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

The New Westminster Police Department investigated the allegations.

Drennan says Diaz has been working in an administrative role and Hughes left the service in 2012.
