The stolen Second World War medals of a 98-year-old veteran from Surrey, BC, remain missing, even though police say they have recovered other items taken from the man's home.
Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Scott Grimmer says Jack Miles lost the items during a May 30 break-in.
But just days later, Coquitlam Mounties recovered a stolen van that led officers to a residence in Surrey.
Police searched the home and found documents, identifications, mail and other items believed to be stolen.
Grimmer says officers also found watches and cuff links owned by Miles, and even though they didn't find his medals the veteran is happy that some of his property has been returned.
Police say 23-year-old Jaylene Hawkins of Surrey faces charges related to mail theft, mischief, unauthorized use of credit-card data, possession of stolen property and breach of conditions.
