Do I need ID to vote?

According to Elections BC, voters must show identification proving their identity and residential address to vote or to register when they vote.

Any one of the following is enough:

· B.C. Driver’s License
· B.C. Identification Card
· Certificate of Indian Status

If you don’t have any of these, bring two documents that together prove your identity and residential address.

· Government-issued identity documents
· School/college/university-issued documents
· Provincial Where to Vote card
· Bank/credit card or statement
· Residential lease/mortgage statement
· Insurance statement
· Public transportation pass
· Utility bill
· Membership card
· Hospital bracelet/document
· Attestation of residence

If you don’t have the required identification, the following people can vouch for you: a registered voter in your electoral district who has the necessary identification, some family members, or someone who has legal authority to make personal care decisions for you.

More information about voter ID requirements is available in the Voting section of the Elections BC website.
