One dead in plane crash

UPDATED: 5:03 p.m.

One person is dead, one person is missing and another has been airlifted to hospital following a float plane crash on Tyaughton Lake in Gold Bridge, about 100 km west of Lillooet.

Lillooet RCMP say it was called to the crash just before 1:00 p.m.  RCMP say calls to 911 advised that a number of nearby boats were trying to rescue the plane occupants.

"Upon attendance, police confirmed that one individual was deceased.  One occupant survived the crash and was transported to hospital with serious but what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.  One occupant has yet to be located and the E Division Underwater Recovery Team is currently on their way to assist," stated Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau.  

Lillooet RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating. 

Anyone who witnessed the crash and has yet to speak to police is asked to contact Lillooet RCMP at 250-256-4244.


UPDATE: 4:10 p.m.

B.C.'s Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre says injured occupants of a plane that crashed west of Lillooet have been flown to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The JRCC did not provide details on the nature of those injuries, however.

The case has been turned over to the RCMP.

UPDATE: 3:50 p.m.

A float plane carrying three to four people has crashed on Tyaughton Lake, roughly 100 kilometres west of Lillooet. 

There's been no word on injuries or a cause of the crash.

Shannon Miller of B.C. Emergency Health Services says there were three or four people aboard a plane that crashed into Tyaughton Lake.

Emergency crews have been called to the scene of a plane crash outside Lillooet.

RCMP say the crash happened about 1 p.m.

"Lillooet RCMP were notified that a small plane had crashed on Tyaughton Lake in Gold Bridge which is located about 100 km west of Lillooet," stated Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau. "Further calls to 911 advised that a number of nearby boats were trying to rescue the plane's occupants."

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre has confirmed it has dispatched a Cormorant helicopter to the site of a plane crash roughly 35 nautical miles outside of Pemberton.

B.C. EHS has also attended with ground and air ambulances.
