Death threats at city hall

Nanaimo's city manager has been arrested for making threats against Mayor Bill McKay and a council member.

Chief Administrative Officer Tracy Samra was arrested at City Hall, Wednesday.

Without naming Samra, McKay said threats were made against his life and that of Coun. Dianne Brennan.

Charges have not been laid, and Samra was released from custody on a promise to appear in court.

RCMP are investigating and have interviewed city employees.

Samra was in the news as recently as two weeks ago, deriding a lack of decorum at council meetings.

The Sechelt First Nation also announced last week her appointment as its new CAO, unknown to Nanaimo city staff.
