When Timo (Steven Yeun) gets both his best friend Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) and himself in trouble with a loan shark to the point where their lives are in danger, they decide to get on board an experimental journey to another planet, where there is hope of forming a new colony.

While Timo gets a job as a pilot, naive Mickey signs up to be an "Expendable." Not really understanding what the job is and why the recruiter is so surprised someone has volunteered for the position, he signs the contract and his fate is sealed.

Unfortunately, an Expendable is basically a lab rat. Someone who is put into dangerous situations over and over again to see if he'll survive and when he dies a horrible, painful death, he's rebooted with his memories intact.
