Joachim Nierfeld
Kelowna School District No. 23

Joachim Nierfeld, born and raised in Germany, immigrated to Canada in 2000 and made his permanent home in Kelowna, BC. Married for more than twenty years, Joachim and wife Kathleen, along with their son Nicholas (a grade 5 student of Anne McClymont Elementary) are active, contributing members to the community that has welcomed them so warmly. One of Joachim’s proudest moments was becoming a full Canadian citizen in 2008.
Originally a product of the German school system, Joachim achieved his Grade 12 and graduated from a 3 year business administration program. Throughout his studies, Nierfeld played many sports, eventually turning his focus to soccer and tennis. Amazingly, his natural skill and dedication at both would present opportunities for him to turn pro.
An aggressive entrepreneur, Nierfeld has played key roles in the birth and/or growth of several local businesses, including Aesthetic Solutions, Operational Management Bottega Farm Inn and, most recently, Dittos Office Services Inc.
As a volunteer, Joachim is tireless, frequently giving of both his time and effort to all manner of community event or initiative. He has supported Little Aces (a Tennis Canada initiative to introduce children to healthy living through sport), the KGH Foundation, the Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Mental Health Association and many more.
Additionally, Joachim was instrumental in creating (and sustaining) the only internationally sanctioned professional tennis event to ever take place in the central Okanagan. And at seven years running, the non-profit Kelowna Futures ITF Tournament remains our city’s only multi-year, fully professional sporting event.
