Bob Schewe
Kelowna Mayor

Our current mayor and council have taken the City of Kelowna down an unacceptable path for the last 4 years. We have to turn around the current offensive and unsafe conditions of the downtown, and other similarly affected areas of the City. Our parks including many neighborhood children's playgrounds have turned into an uncivilized arena with the associated transient presence and their activities. We must pursue workable solutions for Kelowna's complex issues of affordability, livability and safety for all our residents. These are especially serious concerns for our vulnerable retired senior population, and young people.
Slow down the rush to become a big city at any costs -- coming with all the associated big city problems. Moderate growth and careful development has to be good for all our existing businesses and residents, bringing prosperity to all. Major developments and expenses at the planning stage must become open and fully clear, inviting public scrutiny and consultation, especially to existing property owners, businesses and people that work or live in the affected area.
At this point I would like to introduce myself to those who don't know who I am. I just recently retired in July, being a City of Kelowna bylaw officer for the past 12 years. As many of you know, for the last 5 1/2 years I have also worked part time as a salesperson at Princess Auto. I was a renovation contractor for approx. 25 years. I have also been a landlord with several rental properties. In 1995 moved to Westbank, and joined the Westbank Fire Dept. for the adventure and to meet people. In 2001 I started working for the RDCO as a Dog Control officer, then shortly after moving into Kelowna. In 2006 I moved over to the City of Kelowna Bylaw Dept. up until I just retired.
