Search for boater continues

10:30 p.m. update: Dale Jorgensen, the Penticton SAR search manager, who said they finished searching Friday at around 7 p.m.

The search for the missing 25-year-old man from Abbotsford will resume on Okanagan Lake Saturday morning and after that they will re-assess the situation. Vernon Search and Rescue assisted Penticton Search and Rescue with the effort today.

An RCMP boat was also out on the water, but divers have not gone in at any time, because the water is too deep.

The man fell off the front bow of a boat and was struck by the boat, Wednesday night on Okanagan Lake.

People acquainted with the man have been on scene awaiting word since the incident happened. 

The man has not yet been identified.

Sept. 13 7:30 a.m. update: The search for the young man who fell off a boat in Okanagan Lake Wednesday night is still underway. People who showed up at the scene to await word, declined to comment. Over the course of the day, Penticton Search and Rescue and an RCMP boat were out in the water. An RCMP helicopter was also used in the search. According to RCMP, the man was not wearing a life jacket, and fell in where the depth of the lake is 185 feet. Divers typically don't go that deep. No identity as yet.

Sept. 12, Update: 9:30 a.m. - RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says police and fire rescue crews responded to a call for a man overboard and presumed drowned at the south end of Okanagan lake about 7:45 Wednesday evening.

Moskaluk says occupants of the 24' boat told police one man had fallen overboard while the boat was heading back toward Penticton Marina. 

"He fell off the front bow of the boat and was struck by the boat. Unfortunately he did not resurface," says Moskaluk.

Search teams were on the water until about 9:30 Wednesday night. The search resumed this morning.

Moskaluk says investigators have been in touch with the 25-year-old man's family in Abbotsford.

Naramata Fire Department says the search units were called out last night when the incident happened.

They are searching the lake and shores from Penticton to Naramata.
