Teens save people from fire

A late night house fire on Wade Ave. West, near Rigsby St., had neighbours scrambling to get two adults and their pets out.

Two alert teens went across the street and woke the two people up in the home. They then helped them escape with their two dogs.

Titus Calderbank, 16, and his friend Danny Holding-Mabley were first on the scene.

"Danny looks over at the house over here and says, 'Dude, I think that house is on fire'. We start running over and put our stuff down on the ground and I pull out my phone and I call 911. We run up to the house and start banging on their window and knocking and we are like 'Dude your house is on fire!'. The guy was passed out on the couch I guess and his mom (was also asleep). We get them out of the house and they are in shock I guess," says Calderbank.

A witness tells Castanet that it started just before 11 on Monday.

The fire burned the carport, a car and part of the house before crews had it under control.

Smoke from the fire quickly filled the downtown area.
