Fire destroys family home

A family in Keremeos has lost everything, after their home was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning.

The volunteer fire department responded to the call of a house fire, at Hwy 3 and Beecroft Ave.,  just after midnight. Captain Bill Arnott says the structure was fully involved when crews arrived on scene.

"Everyone was out of the house (when we arrived) and they said they got their pets out too."

Those pets included a dog and puppies.

Approximately 18 members responded to the blaze and remained on scene for several hours battling the flames.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

The residents of the home, a couple and their son, were placed in the care of emergency services to start and are now staying with their daughter in Penticton, according to a friend Jenn Keast.

The man is celebrating his 60th birthday today. Among their immediate needs are  clothing, toiletries and gift cards for food. The two men wear a size extra large, and the woman is a size medium. The daughter is also arranging for a storage unit for furniture.

"They are shocked, sad and at a loss right now, " said Keast. "I feel terrible for them and I just want to help out."

To assist the family, call 250-488-2020.
