Update: No end in sight to hwy closure

The weekend's wet weather continues to take its toll throughout the province.

Hwy 97A remains closed in two locations within eight kilometres of Sicamous.

Flooding has forced the closure of the route three kilometres south of Sicamous at the Two Mile Bridge.

Drive BC says as of 7:00 a.m., Sunday June 24, there is no estimated time of opening available and that officials are trying to come up with a solution.

Flooding also washed out the highway eight kilometres south of Sicamous and DriveBC says crews are assessing that situation, but are unable to provide an estimate as to when the road will become passable again.

There is a detour available between Hwy 97B and Highway 1.

However, further east on Highway 1, a closure is in effect between Perry River and Revelstoke because of a mudslide 15 kilometres west of Revelstoke.

A geo-technical assessment is being done, and until the route reopens, travellers can detour via Hwy 6 and Hwy 23. Ferry service will be available as necessary.
