There will be a job fair happening next month that will provide women with opportunities to enter into trades.
Kootenay Women in Trades (KWT) will be hosting a job fair at the Stanley Humphries Secondary School in Castlegar on May 6.
Although established back in 2008, the Women in Trades Training (WITT) program expanded in 2016 after the provincial government announced it would be putting more funding towards the initiative.
It was initially created to address gender disparities in skilled trade sectors by establishing targeted training and mentorship to create a more inclusive industry
Next month is free, and participants will be able to chat with tradeswomen from a variety of different industries and get their firsthand experience on what it's like working in the trades.
They will also be there to teach attendees about the different avenues they can take to develop their skills, qualifications, to help determine what field is best suited for them
"Whether you're a student planning your future, a job seeker looking for new opportunities, or a professional eager to network, this event is designed to provide valuable insights, connections, and resources,” organizers wrote in a press release.
