Re, Linda Garner’s letter, Opposed to road plan (Castanet April 8)
Kudos to Linda Garner for raising the profile of the work to come.
The Burtch Road extension will have a couple of turns in it so it eventually lines up with KLO Road. The way some drive in Kelowna, it should be quite the spectacle.
Just over a year ago, some intrepid Evil-Knievel-wanna-be launched their vehicle over the traffic circle at Burtch Road and Bryns Road.
What people may not realize is not only does the city plan to extend Burtch Road past Munson Pond but it is going to build a sewage treatment plant on the south east corner of the traffic circle.
Many people will recall the construction along Burtch Road, where the sewer lines were realigned. The same thing is going to happen on Raymer Avenue, the sewer line is going to be realigned from the sewage plant on Raymer to the new plant on Burtch. The new plant will take the treated sludge and feed it to organisms that will further break it down. It seems there isn't much of a market for the excess Ogo-grow the city sells at the Glenmore Landfill.
Hopefully there is never a leak or spill at the plant or from the sewer lines as the harm to Munson Pond would be disastrous.
Munson Pond cannot be developed by the city, (as per the terms under which it was bequeathed to the city) but like the buildings that are deemed heritage and are allowed to deteriorate, you get them demolished after neglect.
Will the same thing happen to Munson Pond—development by pressure on the ecosystem?
