Police release new details on death of skier at Red Mountain

Details on skier's death

Trail RCMP officers have released more information about the incident that led to the sudden death of a young skier at Red Mountain Resort.

Police said that the 20-year-old Port Coquitlam man had been skiing with his family when he took a different path down a ski run than the group.

When he did not rejoin his family a short time later, they subsequently contacted the local ski patrol. Ski patrollers later searched the area where the man was last seen by his family. They later located the man who was unresponsive.

The cause was discovered to be from a piece of the man's ski equipment. The equipment had become entangled with a tree, restricting his ability to breathe. Patrollers than attempted to revive the man before he was transported down the mountain to paramedics.

The young man succumbed to his injuries and the incident was taken over by the B.C. Coroners Service.

"Our most sincere condolences to his family and friends after this very tragic and sudden event," said Sgt. Wicentowich of the Trail RCMP.
