Where will Carney run?

I want to congratulate Mark Carney for securing the position of (Liberal leader and) prime minister without being elected in a democracy.

Carney is positioning himself as normal guy who was born in Western Canada, grew up in Edmonton, played hockey, loves the Edmonton Oilers hockey team and the Edmonton Elks football team, is a beer drinker and down to earth guy.

So, it seems very reasonable he would look to secure a federal seat in the land he loves so much, Edmonton, Alberta, his home and native land.

If he decides to forgo his birthright and seek a nomination any where else, it begs the question, why is he forsaking his roots? Is he afraid his fellow Edmontonians don’t share his “eco-activist” attacks on his native province fossil fuel economy?

Let’s see where his loyalty lies, in urban Toronto, urban Montreal, the Maritimes or urban downtown Vancouver.

Robert Hepting, Kelowna

(Editor’s note: Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is from Calgary but has always represented an Ottawa-area riding. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is from Scarborough, Ontario and represents a Burnaby B.C. riding.)
