Better training needed
Re. Child welfare lacks supports (Castanet, Feb. 15)
One could not discuss a more important issue.
(British Columbians) as represented, by government policies and actions, aim to protect the children in our province and we want to en sure each child is safe and provided with the abilities to thrive in their future.
The Ministry of Children and Family Development is mandated to ensure each child is thus cared for.
I suggest the qualifications of the supervisory and functioning staff are not as high, and they are not as educated and skilled as is required for this important task.
Regardless of wordy policies and procedures, oversight of the delivery (of services), is sorely lacking.
The (workers) given those tasks need stronger leadership, leadership that has knowledge of the complexities of assessments and the tools to assist young peoples’ healthy futures.
Please educate and support a stronger ministry. Our future is in the children’s hands
