Re. Gray takes shots at Carney (Castanet, Feb. 13)
Open letter to Kelowna-Lake Country MP Tracy Gray,
We are writing to you because we were deeply disappointed by your recent statement regarding (federal Liberal leadership candidate) Mark Carney.
From our conversations with you, and despite our political differences, we know you to be someone who values fairness, kindness and our community. That’s why this rhetoric feels particularly disheartening.
As you know, politics is often complicated and we recognize there are times when party expectations shape the messages politicians feel compelled to deliver. That being said, we believe this moment calls for something greater—a commitment to honesty, leadership that rejects division rather than amplifying it and personal accountability for our contributions.
The divisiveness we see today is not inevitable. It is being deliberately constructed by those who do not have a stake in the well-being of everyday people but rather in maintaining power through fear and division.
It doesn’t have to be thatway. We have the power to reject this manufactured conflict and choose to lead with integrity and courage.
History remembers those who stood up and lived their values and those who did not. We know you entered politics for the right reasons—to serve and strengthen our community. That is why we urge you to rise to this occasion, to stand up as a strong leader and role model who prioritizes unity and truth over partisanship.
We believe you are better than this, Tracy. This is an opportunity to do what is right and to lead with integrity.
Carrie and Wayne Broughton, Kelowna
