Trailer goes up in flames at RV park in Okanagan Falls
Multiple trailers damaged
UPDATE: 10:15 a.m.
An intense fire at the Okanagan Falls Playa Okanagan RV Park Monday night left one RV completely destroyed and two others damaged by the flames.
Fred Dobransky, the Okanagan Falls Fire Chief, said the cause of the fire is under investigation at this time, but is not deemed suspicious.
Twenty-two members responded to the report of the fire and found the RV completely engulfed in flames. The owner had gone into town when he got a phone call saying his trailers up in flames and came back right away.
"There was a couple of trailers that got heat exposures from the main fire, one on the east side, which was not able to move, as it was a fifth-wheel trailer, she got the most damage on hers," Dobransky said.
"Another RV, which was a C Class RV, she was able to start up her RV and move it out of the way. Unfortunately, she got some heat damage on hers there too, where she couldn't get her doors closed. It is basically just cosmetic, but there is damage on those."
Dobransky said the C Class RV had a smoke alarm going off inside when the main RV fire started occurring, which helped them move in time to avoid serious damage.
"[Drivers] should always have a working smoke detector and carbon monoxide detectors. All these people run their trailers off of propane heaters. And I always say, make sure you have a working carbon monoxide detector in your trailers, please."
The main trailer burned out to the ground and unfortunately, fire crews found the remains of six puppies.
"A couple of puppies came out, with the mom and dad, but we found the six others later into the evening," he added.
The ALERT Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team were actioned out to the scene and assisted in patching up any injuries on the remaining puppies, that are now in their care.
Dobransky said he was proud of the work his crews did.
"We responded to it quickly. We did protect the other exposures. We didn't want to rest of the trailer park going up in flames. So we did a great job last night."
