Problem with methane
Re. Jason Wolfe's letter Fortis makes case for RNG (Castanet, Jan. 10)
I write this letter from a place of extreme grief for the hundreds of thousands of displaced Californians who have lost their homes and livelihoods in blazing infernos.
My niece and her family had to evacuate even before the fires neared their home because the surrounding smoke was so toxic it was making her daughter sick.
How (FortisBC’s) Jason Wolfe can continue to promote costly RNG as a climate solution is unconscionable. It is still methane, a deadly heat-trapping gas that is 80 times more potent than CO2 for global warming.
The oil and gas industry knew, as far back as the 1950s, that the burning of fossil fuels was causing global warming but through sheer corporate greed chose to launch a massive marketing campaign to extol its virtues.
Because of huge advances in battery storage, we have far more affordable, reliable, clean energy solutions available now. We need to embrace them if we are to leave ourselves a safe and habitable planet.
Meanwhile, FortisBC just hiked your bills by 17%.
