Canada’s legal system is a giant joke
(There should be) mandatory long sentences for large amounts of hard drugs and gun crimes.
We see a local drug case with large amounts of the often deadly drug fentanyl and we see the defence pushing for extremely light sentence—basically a slap on wrist.
What we need in Canada is mandatory long sentences for those caught in possession of substantial amounts of dangerous hard drugs . I don’t care about weed (marijuana) unless it is cut with dangerous hard drugs.
Mandatory sentence should be five years first offences and go up to 10 years,15 years and 25 years for repeat offences or when very large quantities are involved .
The dealers are basically murderers or attempted murderers. No excuse about how they are addicts should influence these mandatory sentences.
The same mandatory sentences need to come in for gun crimes to the illegal possession of firearm.
The fault is not with the police. The fault is with courts and (those) who feel sorry for these drug dealing monsters. I assure you, if your loved one dies from an overdose of one of these very dangerous drugs, you will want justice. And justice is not community service or six months and out in four months.
Our country has gone to hell with our soft legal system. It is only going to get worse .
