I take a transit bus to Peachland’s blood donor clinic every three months and I did so on Dec. 9.
As a senior, I dislike crossing Highway 97 at Richter Street (in Kelowna) and walking along Harvey Avenue (Highway 97) with speeding traffic.
The ramp (overpass) access on the north side of the Highway is being worked on at street level. The sidewalk was closed, with no indication of how to get to the transit stop just 50 yards on the other side of the road. I scurried through the driving lane to get to the bus stop.
On my return from Peachland, I left the bus at the Richter and Harvey stop on the south side of Harvey and under the new overpass. As I made my way towards Richter, I searched for evidence of a street-level access to the overpass ramp, as I'd seen on the north side. I didn't see anything.
I've often walked to the Central Green complex plaza to check the ramp’s progress, which will be accessible there. I’m looking forward to going downtown, or even just across the road to Starbucks for a coffee.
I wish I could see a plan for the south side ramp that will also drop down to street level.
I know the developer of the Central Green complex is obligated to provide public access to Bertram Street from the complex’s plaza but where's the street access on that side?
