Smoke, flames spotted coming from structure on Green Mountain Road

Fire on Green Mtn Road

UPDATE: 7:34 p.m.

According to the Penticton Fire Chief Rob Trousdell, the fire started at 1:13 p.m. at the 200 block of Green Mountain Road.

The lot had an assortment of wood piles, cardboard, barrels and logs. He tells Castanet the fire spread quickly into the large piles and embers were dropping in different areas of the lot, igniting other materials.

Trousdell says fire crews managed to get control of the incident before it spread to other lots.

FortisBC was notified of the fire as it damaged a power pole at the scene.

The fire was then suppressed with an excavator.

Heavy smoke and flames can be seen from Green Mountain Road in Penticton on Saturday afternoon.

Fire crews are on scene responding to what appears to be a structure fire across from the En'owkin Centre on Penticton Indian Band Land.
