Thinks fire human caused

Re. Remote wold wife grows (Castanet, May 29)

There was an article in (Monday’s) news about wildfire in the Peace River region, 160 km north of Fort St. John.

(The area) is called Donnie Creek and Tommy Lakes. On Sunday the fire was 1,300 square-kilometres in size and evacuation orders were imposed. On Monday, it is stated the fire had grown to 1,575 square-kilometres in less than 24 hours.

On Monday there was a picture of the fire and it really did not look wild or natural (to me). It looked human caused, in my opinion. And the destruction continues.

In Monday’s news it was stated there were five 20-person crews and five helicopters employed (to fight the fire). For. 1,300 sure-kilometre fir that makes one (firefighter) for every 13 square-kilometres and one helicopter for every 260 square-kilometres. What a joke. It is really a waste of effort and money.

Why aren't the fires fought right when they start, with more personal from the beginning?

Vera Durst, Logan Lake
