Drug trafficking ring busted

Four people from Kelowna are among nine arrested and charged Thursday as a major drug trafficking ring was busted.

More than 50 RCMP officers executed warrants on 12 separate locations in Kelowna, Terrace and Prince Rupert.

Two men aged 39 and 56 and two woman aged 34 and 36 were taken into custody in Kelowna following raids on homes, businesses and the Liquid Zoo night club.

Cocaine, cash, rifles, handguns and two vehicles used to transport the drugs were seized in Kelowna, with more drugs including ecstasy and marijuana, weapons and vehicles seized in Terrace.

A 19-year old college student alleged to be the head of the ring was arrested coming out of class after writing an exam at North West Community College in Prince Rupert according to RCMP Constable Steve Holmes.

"There's obviously a connection with these people in Kelowna most likely working for him, or at least associated in some way, shape or form. Of course it deals with drug trafficking in the area," says Holmes.

Three other Terrace men and an employee of a car dealership in Prince Rupert were also taken into custody.

Charges are being recommended against three other people in Terrace, Kelowna and Vancouver in connection with the bust.
