Penticton city council will ponder asking the provincial government to commit to pitching in more for local affordable housing projects.
Mayor Julius Bloomfield has a proposed a resolution to take to the 2023 Southern Interior Local Government Association in Vernon this April.
SILGA considers resolutions from local member municipalities at its annual meeting, and those that pass are then submitted to the Union of BC Municipalities. Past that, they are submitted to the province for response.
Bloomfield's submission is for a resolution that would require the provincial government to "work collaboratively with local governments and establish a model that provides provincial funding equal or greater in value to any donated land a local government contributes for the purpose of attainable and affordable housing projects."
His fellow city council members will discuss and vote on the matter at Tuesday's regular meeting.
