Vancouver police release security footage of Granville Street stabbing

Stabbing suspects sought

Around 11 p.m. on Jan. 14, a man was stabbed in the chest trying to prevent an attempted theft from a homeless person and now the Vancouver Police Department is asking the public for help.

A 30-year-old Metro Vancouver resident witnessed three men attempting to steal a backpack from someone sleeping on a bench and tried to intervene. He was punched in the face and stabbed in the chest, according to police. The incident took place outside the Granville SkyTrain station.

The VPD has released security footage of the incident and photos of the three suspects who have yet to be identified in the hopes that a member of the public will recognize them.

The victim, who was from New Westminster, "came to Vancouver with friends to celebrate a birthday in the Granville Entertainment District," says Constable Tania Visintin in a press release. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has since been released.

“We have been working to identify the suspects since this incident and are now releasing video surveillance with hopes someone will recognize them and call police,” she adds.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 604-717-4021.
