Avalanche control will close Highway 1 through the Rogers Pass Friday.

Drivers should expect lengthy closures Friday on the Trans-Canada Highway.

DriveBC says avalanche control work is scheduled between Revelstoke and Golden.

The work will close Highway 1 throughout the day, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. No detour is available.

Avalanche Canada says that there are dangerous avalanche conditions through the Rogers Pass. It notes that large areas of Glacier National Park are closed for avalanche control with explosives.

Over the past month, five people have died in snow slides in British Columbia, including two Nelson police officers and a pair of Americans who were heli-skiing near Revelstoke.
